Expert panel on the application of artificial intelligence in cinema

A panel on the application of artificial intelligence in cinema was held at the event “From Imagination to Reality” with the participation of several experts in the field.

Artificial Intelligence: An Effective Assistant

Filmmaker Mehrdad Khoshbakht, in a panel on artificial intelligence and directing, highlighted the importance of sharing experiences in this area and allayed concerns about the impact of artificial intelligence on film careers. He said that artistic careers still exist and emphasized that artificial intelligence can act as an effective assistant in writing and research.

Khoshbakht spoke about the ability of artificial intelligence to provide fundamental ideas and help directors visualize the atmosphere of their films before forming expensive teams. The entry of artificial intelligence into cinema has created an opportunity to revive innovative methods of film production.

He expressed hope that instead of spending on government systems, the focus will be on idea generation and creativity.

The necessity of learning artificial intelligence for filmmakers

In this specialized panel, Touraj Aslani, director of photography and cinema director, pointed out the necessity of accepting and applying artificial intelligence in cinema production and said that this new technology has become a part of our lives.

He emphasized that, like the transition from analog to digital, filmmakers must keep up with artificial intelligence and free themselves from negative judgments against it. Although some jobs may be affected by technology, this tool can act as a modern assistant in the cinema industry.

He clarified that, in order to succeed in this field, filmmakers must learn the language of artificial intelligence and need trade associations to promote knowledge and cooperation in this field. With the arrival of artificial intelligence, Iran’s young cinema has come back to life and brought new innovations.

A great revolution is underway with artificial intelligence

Dr. Hamid Ziaeiparvar, a professor of communication sciences and an artificial intelligence researcher, pointed out the impact of new technologies on the field of communications and content production, saying: “A great revolution is underway, and the benefits of using artificial intelligence in the production of text, images, sound, and video are unbelievable.”

He noted: “These technologies have facilitated the production of public content, taking away the monopoly of the cinema industry from professionals, and allowing ordinary people to produce cinematic and artistic content, including prohibited subjects that were previously censored. This development removes the lines of censorship and helps revive the voices and images of celebrities and artists, and also makes it easier for people to learn cinematic techniques.

Referring to Iran’s serious entry into the field of artificial intelligence in the last seven or eight years, Ziaei Parvar emphasized the need to design new university majors in this field so that amateurs can be trained by artificial intelligence and work with these technologies.

Dr. Fatemeh Ghaffari, a cinema producer and founder of the first virtual film production factory, referred in her speech to the major changes in the production industry at the current stage and said: As a producer, we are seeking to build a better future for this field. We are trying to provide appropriate models. Over the years, we have tried to provide a suitable environment so that talented people can find their way in this field.

Ghaffari emphasized: Creativity and peace are essential for progress in this industry, and if the distances with the surrounding environment are not reduced, effective work is not possible.

Interaction; The Difference Between Human Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence

In his speech, Abuzar Saffarian, director and founder of independent Iranian digital cinema, pointed out the fundamental changes in the status of art and the role of artificial intelligence, and said that the story of artificial intelligence and natural intelligence is becoming a new narrative. In his opinion, the definitions of the artist and the importance of art are changing, and these changes are creating more enjoyment and attraction in the world of cinema.

He explained: Diversity and categories are increasing and changing, and the value of cinema has changed since the 1990s. Saffarian emphasized the importance of being seen in art and said that artificial intelligence must also face challenges in order to survive.

He added: The value of human intelligence and artificial intelligence is not much different; the difference is that humans have the ability to interact; but artificial intelligence lacks this ability. With artificial intelligence, we are able to shape a new environment. This ability is very attractive.
